Compress vs resize: what's the difference?
Compressing reduces file size by adjusting encoding quality, but keeps the same pixel dimensions. If your image is 4000×3000 and you compress it to 2MB, it's still 4000×3000 pixels — just encoded more efficiently.
If the portal also has a maximum dimension requirement (e.g., "must be under 2000px wide"), use the Resize tool first, then compress. The combination of smaller dimensions plus optimized compression is the fastest path to a tiny file.
